Lamon Review: BonChon Chicken

BonChon is a popular restaurant that originated from South Korea and has already earned a reputation as having the best wings in town, probably in all of Asia. With their super crunchy chicken and savory Soy Garlic and Spicy sauces, its hard to doubt that statement.
BonChon has been an anomaly for me for quite sometime. People everywhere have been saying "Bonchon this" and "Bonchon that". It was really interesting on my part that BonChon has already garnered a reputation around Quezon City while in fact, the nearest Bonchon at that time was at Makati area. I said, "I really have to go to this place and try it for myself" but alas, it didn't coincide with any of my schedules.

Then one early Saturday morning, my sister's friend, Maika, called and said that she was coming over. The matter got more interesting when she added, she was bringing BonChon chicken bought from Megamall area.

"MEGAMALL?? SERYOSO?!", saying that while standing up from shock and excitement.

Why wouldn't I be excited? I was about to experience my first BonChon Chicken. EVER.

Arriving, we already took our seats and took a whiff of the unexplainable aroma that is seeping from the box that the chicken is in. Opening the box, what surprised us was the shiny and glistening velvet color of the wings. The way it reflected light was so beautiful, too beautiful to eat. But it didn't stop me from reaching out and getting my first piece of greasy gold.
A real life Treasure Chest

It was still warm to the touch and was the perfect time to still eat it after take-out.

Then, it was time for the first bite.
*CRUNCH was literally the sound it made when it dove into battle of teeth VS chicken skin.
It was everything I thought it would be, the Soy Garlic sauce exploded into my mouth causing an imaginary reaction only found in the Anime's Cooking Master Boy and Yakitate Japan.
YES. It was THAT good.
The blend of spices were effectively balanced. Sweet, savory with a touch of tangy-ness that blended well with the crispy and juicy chicken that was probably deep fried to perfection. This was the king of wings I have thought. For it was one of the tastiest, juiciest and crispiest chicken I have ever laid my tastebuds on.

But from the overrated reactions coming from the take-out, it was still, well, take-out. I had to experience the real deal. Freshly cooked, hot off the grill deliciousness. That took place after a photoshoot earlier that day. Niko and some work friends, Benjo and Dars, decided to eat out after the grueling photoshoot. We were hungry as hell and wanted something to quench our heavy appetites. Then, BonChon was the only answer due to the fact that we were in Makati that day.

Making sure we had every factor of gastronomic goodness during our stay there, we ordered about 25+ pieces. Spicy, Soy and Drumsticks. With their uber-delicious kimchi coleslaw and cold beer, we indulged ourselves in chicken. Nobody said a word for about 10 minutes. Each of us was crying inside on how good every single meat on those chicken wings. Paired with ice-cold beer, every element was perfect.
add bg song: "Perfect combinaaaaaation"

Beer and Chicken, need I say more?
the aftermath

yeah boy.
And lo and behold, being foodies ourselves, my sister tried to recreate the awesomeness that is BonChon. We found a recipe from the internet that we had to try for ourselves. It was a success, though the color is a little off, but my sister nailed the basic flavor from the chicken to the famous sauce. Now she can be dubbed as Bon Chody (from Jody). :D
BonChody!
If you want the chance to experience BonChon for yourself , there are several branches now available for BonChon lovers.

Areas are:

Greenbelt Makati
Megamall
Eastwood
and coming soon,
Katipunan.

Burger Hunt 2011: The Burger Project

Wanted to try your burger with a whole heap of bacon and mayonnaise? Or douse your burger with lots of BBQ sauce? Or just design a burger with everything but the kitchen sink?

Burger Project in Teacher's village Maginhawa Street gives you that opportunity to choose from the toppings, sauce up to the bun!
First things first, Buns.
I chose Oatmeal bun due to the fact that it's healthy and has no overpowering flavors that may hinder the taste of the patty and its toppings. Plus it was the replacement bun of the now-defunct poppy seed bun that they used to serve.

Then the toppings.
Being a meat lover, I've just topped my burger with every meat available on the menu like 2 orders of bacon, canadian bacon(salted bacon) and super juicy Grade-A Angus Beef. It's so juicy, I burned my tongue with the juice of the patty when I bit into it. Medium-rare kick-some-stranger's-balls-and-run goodness.

For cheese, I chose BOTH Mozzarella and Cheddar. Why? The gooeyness of the Mozzarella cheese plus the classic flavor of Cheddar cheese on the steaming hot juicy Angus beef patty? (*wipes drool from mousepad)

The other toppings I chose were sundried tomatoes, sweet caramelized onions, lettuce, tomato, pickles and Wasabi Mayonnaise. It was in Burger Project that I discovered such as a sauce that would literally kick your tastebuds without any spicy factor mixed in. Since then, I'm making wasabi mayonnaise everytime there's a burger in the house.

You can also name the burger after you're done picking the ingredients, I ironically named mine "Heaven". It's because you can experience Heaven with just a bite and have one too many and that's where you're going after. lol.

The finished burger took up the size of half of my face. I was so happy that I seen this burger as big as a truck. The bigger the burger, the more flavors I got to experience.

In the long run, this is just my combination, you can order twice the toppings or even mix it up with different toppings according to your liking.
Oh sweet beefy goodness.

You can never have just one...

and yes, I got to take one PERFECT bite of everything even with the size of this thing

You can order other sides like their variety of Fries and sweet potato fries plus buffalo wings, mozzarella sticks and onion rings.
Beverages include softdrinks and iced teas. I prefer to eat these with a bottle of ice-cold beer.

All in all, Burger Project has my highest rating and recommendation yet. Due to creativity and freedom to choose anything you want. *clap clap

5 Burgers! yum yum!

You can find Burger Project at Teacher's village, 122 Maginhawa Street. Beside Sancho Restaurant. :))

Burger Hunt 2011

I am about to embark on a journey to find the Philippine's tastiest, weirdest, most outrageous burgers.

From the typical, Buy One, Take One burgers that is commonly found in the streets, to the interesting customization of burgers and their topping that shout out, "ANYTHING GOES!" with every pickle and lettuce thrown in.

I will show my rating via my scoring system of 5 burgers. 5 being the highest and 1 being the lowest. woot woot.

Disclaimer:
The user may get fatter with each hunt but he doesn't give a damn. And he will be happy with every bite.
